This review does not reflect the quality of the car or the brand at all—it is purely about the poor experience at this specific dealership.
We made a special trip to this location from an hour away to see a nearly new BYD Dolphin that was advertised at a great price on their website. I had already used the payment calculator on their own site to figure out the PCP numbers, but when we arrived, the figures were vastly different. Our salesperson, Chris, admitted it was "odd" but offered nothing but an apology. What was most disappointing was the total lack of effort to make things right; when I asked if he could check with a manager about honouring the site's pricing or offering a gesture like a complementary first service or floor mats, he just dismissed the request and said there was nothing to be done.
The lack of care continued with the finance application. We explained that we had recently moved back from the US but still had UK credit history. Chris said he would add all this context to the notes for the bank, but the application was still rejected the next morning. When I spoke to the bank directly at 10 am, they explained they just needed a UK address where I’d been receiving statements and said they would tell the dealership to reach out to me to resubmit.
By 5 pm, I still hadn’t heard anything from the dealership. When I finally called them, Chris seemed surprised and simply said the application had been denied. It left us wondering if he was ever even going to bother calling us to tell us it had been declined. Once we told him what the bank said, he resubmitted it with the correct address and it was approved the next day.
It felt like they had zero interest in customer service or transparency once we were actually in the building. I would strongly suggest avoiding this dealership, and specifically Chris, if you expect a professional experience. Do yourself a great favour and visit a different BYD dealership instead.
